An advisory meeting was held at the Coimbatore Collector’s office on disaster management. Lieutenant General Marvo, Member of National Disaster Management Committee presided over this meeting. Speaking on this occasion he emphasised on the importance of making our city prepared to meet any unforeseen disasters.

“We are expecting continues spells of rain in a few days from now. Ahead of the monsoon rains, low-lying areas should be identified and necessary steps should be taken to avoid stagnation of water. The water bodies and places where water is stored should be de-silted and readied for the monsoon season. Water bodies should be constantly monitored.” General Marvo said.
He also added that equipments like boats should be kept ready to evacuate people in case of water stagnation in low-lying areas. The public must be made aware on how to safeguard themselves when a disaster hits. A disaster inspection team comprising of officials from all concerned departments should be formed to keep a vigil on possible disasters. A team of medical experts also should be kept on stand-by in case a medical emergency arises due to disaster. Fire and Safety department and police department should work hand-in-hand with other voluntary organisations during times of emergency.
District Collector TN Hariharan, Superintendent of Police, Ramya Bharathi, District Revenue Officer, Christuraj, Pollachi Sub-Collector Gayathri Krishnan, Trainee Collector Priyanka, Revenue Divisional Officers Chinnasamy, Suresh, Personal Assistant to district collector Chidamabaram and government officials of various departments participated in the meeting.
