In a press meet convened today, Harishankar Verma, Divisional Manager of Salem Division of the Southern Railways stated that 'An estimate of Rs. 2 crores has been allotted for constructing a multi-level car and two wheeler parking at the Coimbatore Railway Junction. Everyday the congestion is getting more and more and this state-of-art parking technology will help to ease the decongest the traffic around the area. Within a span of 3-4 months, the parking lot construction would begin'.
While briefing on the new express train between Coimbatore and Bangalore, he stated that 'As approved by the Central Minister for Railways, Suresh Prabhu , the much-awaited super fast express train between Coimbatore to Bangalore will commence it's trail run shortly. The long-pending plea of the people of the city to introduce a night train between Coimbatore to Bangalore will be decided by the higher authorities in due course of time'.
'As announced earlier, the Coimbatore Railway Station would get a new make-over shortly. Escalators, lifts, subways along with expansion of platform No:1 work will commence as scheduled. The on-going track expansion work between Pollachi-Podanur route is on at full pace and expected to be finished by March 2017' he said.
