Southern Railways to conduct heritage NMR ride to celebrate Gandhi Jayanthi

Coimbatore: The Southern Railways is planning to take passengers on a joy ride in the historic Nilgiris Mountain Rail to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi tomorrow.

Coimbatore: The Southern Railways is planning to take passengers on a joy ride in the historic Nilgiris Mountain Rail to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi tomorrow.

A release from the Southern Railways said that it is planning to give the passengers of NMR a feel of steam heritage by running a joy ride trip between Udagamandalam and Ketti and back with coal-fired steam loco and refurbished coaches tomorrow. Rs. 300 will be charged for a Second class ticket and Rs. 400 will be charged for a First class ticket.

The joy ride train consists of two coaches, with 40 seats in first class and second class each. The joy ride will depart from Udhagamandalam at 10 am and reach Ketti at 10.30 am. The return journey will start from Ketti at 11 am and will reach Udagamandalam at 11.30 am.
