Splinter outfit of KMK launched in Tirupur

Namathu Kongu Munnetra Kazhagam, a splinter outfit of Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam was launched at Arachalur near Kangayam in Tirupur district on Sunday.

Kangayam M Thangavel, former general secretary of the parent KMK, who has broken away to launch the new outfit said that the party would fight for rights of farmers and gounders in the region.

Though there are several parties in the Kongu region, they have not taken any steps to solve long pending problems like the Avinashi - Athikadavu water scheme,'' Thangavel said, addressing the cadres at the launch event. He then demanded the state and central government to fix better prices for farm produce, waive loans obtained by farmers and provide free electricity to farmers. Gounders should be included in most backward caste list,'' he said. The flag of the new outfit was also introduced at the event.

This is the fourth time that Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam has split since it was founded in 2009. Thangavel cited that the leadership of KMK was inaccessible to leaders as well as cadres of the party, one of the reasons for which he was splitting.

The new outfit is likely to hold talks with a few parties and enter into an alliance for the upcoming elections.
