Coimbatore: Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam) general secretary K Ramakrishnan has alleged that the Vande Bharat train from Chennai to Coimbatore is of no use to the poor and needy.

The Vande Bharat train from Chennai to Coimbatore is of no use to the poor and needy. On the contrary, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam general secretary K Ramakrishnan has alleged that it is being operated at a higher rate for the benefit of the rich who fly by air.

Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam general secretary K Ramakrishnan said in a statement, “While the poor and needy people travelling from Coimbatore to Chennai travelled in unreserved coaches for Rs 300, they had to pay Rs 1,500 on Vande Bharat trains.

The existing express trains, unreserved coaches in high-speed trains, second class bed-ridden coaches have been reduced and the high-cost air-conditioned coaches are being increased.

In the name of takkal, they charge and sell as per the crowd crisis. The Union government is already reducing the number of passenger trains. As a result, workers, students and government employees who can go on monthly fees have been affected.

In particular, the Coimbatore-Salem passenger train has been suspended for months in the name of railway track maintenance.

Similarly, no train going to Kerala has been stopped. The Union government, which is keen to run the Vande Bharat train, has not been able to run trains so far despite repeated public demands to run trains from Coimbatore to the southern districts.

Trains running in Tamil Nadu have so far been named in the state language. Earlier, cheran express, pandian and cholan malaikottai were named in Tamil.

But ever since the BJP came to power in the union, all trains have been named in Sanskrit.

Therefore, the BJP government at the Centre should stop this anti-Tamil and anti-Tamil attitude and run simple fare trains for the benefit of all kinds of people, including the poor and the downtrodden.”
