Annamalai Responds to AIADMK Jayakumar's Criticism Over BJP's Use of MGR, Jayalalithaa Images in Campaign Posters

BJP Tamil Nadu State President Annamalai addressed the controversy over the use of MGR and Jayalalithaa images in BJP campaign posters, emphasizing that Prime Minister Modi respects all leaders and their contributions, regardless of party lines.

Coimbatore: Amidst the brewing political atmosphere as the parliamentary elections approach, BJP Tamil Nadu State President Annamalai has tackled the critique regarding the use of images of MGR and Jayalalithaa in BJP's campaign materials. The response came after former minister Jayakumar raised questions about the BJP's appropriation of these iconic figures' legacies.

Annamalai clarified that the party's intention is not merely to leverage these images for electoral gain but to honor the legacy and contributions of these leaders to Tamil Nadu and India. "People continue to speak," Annamalai remarked, pointing out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has openly discussed the virtues and achievements of leaders across the political spectrum, including Rajaji, Kamaraj, and Vijayakanth, as well as those of MGR and Jayalalithaa.

Further, he highlighted that the BJP's discourse includes acknowledging leaders from various parties, including PV Narasimha Rao and Pranab Mukherjee, who have been posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, regardless of their party affiliations.

Annamalai criticized the opposition for losing sight of their predecessors' paths, suggesting that this deviation is causing their vote banks to diminish. He passionately stated that the current leadership in Tamil Nadu's political landscape does not align with the values and principles of their iconic leaders, which is evident in the public's growing disenchantment with traditional parties.

Regarding the upcoming elections, Annamalai expressed his dedication to the tasks at hand across the thirty-nine constituencies, affirming his readiness to follow Prime Minister Modi's directives without preference or prejudice. "I am prepared to contest if asked, but I have not said I will," Annamalai underscored, indicating his commitment to the party's strategy and leadership.
