Journalists Stage Sit-in Protest at Udumalai All Women Police Station

Journalists held a sit-in at Udumalai All Women Police Station protesting against Inspector Kavitha's refusal to provide information on a minor's sexual assault case. Discussions with officials eventually resolved the issue.

Tirupur: A group of journalists staged a sit-in protest in front of the Udumalai All Women Police Station on Monday, condemning the refusal of police inspector Kavitha to share details about a sensitive case involving the arrest of nine individuals for the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl.

The detainees reportedly included three minors, with suspicions about more individuals linked to the case.

When journalists approached Inspector Kavitha for comments, she denied them entry, stating that no information could be disclosed and ordered them out. This confrontation led to the protest, which lasted over an hour.

Following the stand-off, discussions were held between the journalists and local authorities, including Udumalai DSP Sukumaran and Inspector Geetha of Kudimangalam. Assurances were given for better cooperation and respect towards providing necessary information, leading to the dispersal of the journalists. The incident highlighted ongoing tension and the important role of transparent communication in addressing public concerns.
