BJP State President Annamalai Seeks CBI Investigation into Kallakurichi Illicit Liquor Deaths

BJP State President Annamalai submitted a plea to Governor R.N. Ravi for a CBI probe into the deaths caused by illicit liquor in Karunapuram, Kallakurichi, which claimed 58 lives with many more hospitalized.


Coimbatore: In an urgent move addressing the tragic illicit liquor incident in Karunapuram, Kallakurichi, where 58 people have died so far, BJP State President Annamalai met Governor R.N. Ravi on June 24, alongside former Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and other senior BJP leaders. During the meeting, Annamalai requested a CBI investigation into the matter.


The demand for investigation by the CBI highlights concerns over the larger implications of such incidents. Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Chief Minister Stalin announced in the assembly monetary assistance of Rs.10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs.5 lakh in deposits for children who lost their parents, alongside taking care of their education cost.


Other political leaders, including Former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Vijayakant of DMDK, and actor Vijay of Tamilaga Vetrikazhagam, visited the affected families offering condolences and support. Annamalai had earlier written to Home Minister Amit Shah, indicating the seriousness of the incident and pushing for statewide systemic change.


Further, Annamalai has called for the resignation of the Minister for Prohibition and Excise, S. Muthusamy, and shared these demands publicly on social media, aiming to rally support for immediate action and rectification of the lapses that led to this tragic event.
