Coimbatore District Administration Announces Easy Method for Disaster Reporting During Northeast Monsoon

Coimbatore District Administration has set up a 24/7 emergency control room and introduced the TN Alert app for easy disaster reporting and weather updates during the ongoing Northeast monsoon.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Administration has issued an announcement on October 7th regarding the reporting of disasters and obtaining information about rainfall during the ongoing Northeast monsoon.

According to the statement released by the district administration, a 24-hour toll-free emergency control room has been set up at the District Collector's office. The public can contact the control room at 1077 or 0422-2301114 during disaster situations in Coimbatore district.

Monitoring committees at the Deputy Collector level have been established for each taluk in Coimbatore district. Additionally, zonal committees comprising multi-department officials have been formed to oversee the situation at the taluk level. The administration has identified 66 relief camps to accommodate the public in safe locations during disasters, which are ready for use.

The authorities have emphasized the need for proper drainage facilities to prevent water stagnation during the rainy season. The Public Works Department and local bodies have been instructed to desilt ponds and tanks to facilitate water storage. Measures have also been taken to repair school buildings and ensure proper drainage to prevent water logging.

To better prepare for the Northeast monsoon, the Tamil Nadu government has introduced the TN Alert app. This user-friendly application allows the public to easily access weather information and make necessary preparations. Through the TN Alert app, residents can receive weather updates and early warning messages in Tamil for their specific location. The app also provides information on daily rainfall, water levels in reservoirs, details of vulnerable areas during disasters, and dos and don'ts during calamities.

Furthermore, the TN Alert app enables users to easily report any rain or flood-related issues in their area. This initiative aims to streamline the process of disaster reporting and information dissemination during the monsoon season.
