District Collector urges public to avoid taking selfies at water bodies in Coimbatore

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati advises public to avoid selfies and swimming in dangerous water bodies during northeast monsoon. Safety measures implemented as heavy rains expected.

Coimbatore: As the northeast monsoon has commenced, the Meteorological Department has warned of possible heavy rains in Coimbatore district. In response, the district administration and Coimbatore Corporation have implemented safety and precautionary measures.

District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has urged the public to refrain from taking selfies or swimming in dangerous rivers and water bodies. He emphasized the importance of avoiding such activities to prevent accidents during the monsoon season.

The Collector also advised against riding two-wheelers through railway underpasses, subways, and low-lying areas where rainwater tends to accumulate during heavy downpours. This precaution is necessary to ensure the safety of motorists during intense rainfall.

Residents have been instructed to immediately report any potentially hazardous situations, such as trees or buildings near their homes that are at risk of falling due to rain. They can contact the emergency control room set up at the District Collector's office or the control room established by the Coimbatore Corporation.

These guidelines were issued by District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati on October 15, as part of the administration's efforts to ensure public safety during the northeast monsoon season. The authorities are taking proactive measures to minimize risks and respond quickly to any emergencies that may arise due to heavy rainfall in the region.
