Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy Dams Water Levels Rise in Tiruppur District

Water levels in Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy dams in Tiruppur district have risen due to continuous inflow. As of July 2, Amaravathi dam stands at 38.52 feet and Thirumoorthy at 40.45 feet. Water discharge continues from both dams benefiting downstream agricultural areas.

Coimbatore: The water levels in the major irrigation dams of Tiruppur district - Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy - have risen significantly due to continuous inflow, bringing hope to farmers in the region.

The Amaravathi dam, with a capacity of 90 feet, has witnessed increased water inflow due to continuous rainfall in its catchment areas. According to Water Resources Department officials, as of July 2, the dam's water level has risen to 38.52 feet.

The Amaravathi dam is currently receiving an inflow of 137 cubic feet per second. Meanwhile, water is being discharged from the dam at a rate of 30 cubic feet per second, Water Resources Department officials informed. This water discharge is expected to greatly benefit the irrigated lands in the downstream areas.

The Thirumoorthy dam, located near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, is also receiving good water inflow. As of July 2, the water level in this dam with a capacity of 60 feet stands at 40.45 feet.

The Thirumoorthy dam is recording an inflow of 436 cubic feet per second, which is a highly significant amount. Water is being discharged from the dam at a rate of 370 cubic feet per second, Water Resources Department officials stated.

The rise in water levels in both dams is the result of good rainfall received during the northeast monsoon season. If the inflow continues at this level, irrigation facilities for farmers are expected to improve significantly.

Water Resources Department officials are continuously monitoring the water levels and inflow in the dams. They have informed that all measures related to dam safety and water management are being properly implemented.
