Eight college students were arrested by the Coimbatore District Police and remanded to judicial custody in connection with a dacoity at Madukkarai, where they allegedly assaulted three men and robbed them of four mobile phones, a laptop, and a Rolex watch.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Police have cracked a dacoity case reported from Madukkarai with the arrest of eight college students and the recovery of all the stolen valuables, including a Rolex watch, a laptop, and four mobile phones.

According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of July 15 when three employees of L&T, residing in a rented house in the Madukkarai area, were standing outside their residence watching a football match on a mobile phone.

Police said four men armed with weapons approached the victims, threatened them, and demanded that they surrender their valuables. When the victims resisted, the assailants allegedly forced them inside the house before summoning four more accomplices. During the attack, one of the victims was allegedly struck on the head with a dosa pan found inside the house. The accused then fled with four mobile phones, a laptop, and a Rolex watch.

Following a complaint from the victims, the Madukkarai Police registered a case and launched an investigation. On the directions of Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Pavan Kumar, a special investigation team was constituted under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh of the Perur Sub-Division and led by Inspector Rajendira Prasad of Madukkarai Police Station.
