Acting on a tip-off, Perur police seized around 1.10 tonnes of gutka allegedly stocked for sale at a residence in Balaji Nagar, Theethipalayam, Coimbatore. Two persons have been booked, with one arrested and the other absconding. Preliminary investigation revealed that the contraband had been procured from the Hosur region and brought to the area for distribution.

A large quantity of gutka allegedly stocked for illegal sale was seized from a houseunder the Perur police limits in Coimbatore. Police recovered around 1.10 tonnes of the banned tobacco product and arrested one of the two persons booked in connection with the case.
Acting on a tip-off,a team led by Perur Inspector Naseer conducted a search at in Balaji Nagar in Theethipalayam area.The products were reportedly found stored on the first floor of the house.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the gutka had allegedly been procured from the Hosur region and broughtfor distribution in and around Perur, police said.
Based on the seizure, Perur police registered a case against Immanuel (40) and Sarangapandi (52). Sarangapandi was arrested, while Immanuel is reportedly absconding and a search is underway to trace him.
Police are also investigating the source of the contraband and whether more persons were involved in its procurement and distribution across the Perur region.
