Cheated by colleague, women stages sit-in protest

Cheated by a colleague to the tune of over Rs.2.50 lakh, a 32-year old woman staged a sit-in protest in front of the Coimbatore District Collectorate on Monday demanding the intervention of the District Administration in the issue

According to the victim K. Priya, a resident of Kangavar Street in Peelamedu, she was reportedly working as a housemaid in a private apartment near near Avinashi Road in Coimbatore.

She had lent a sum of Rs. 2.50 lakh and five sovereign worth gold jewellery to a colleague named Ananthajyothi who was working as a watchman in the same apartment.  However, he failed to return the money even after two months.

“He said that he wanted to buy a site near Vadavalli for which about Rs.3.50 lakh was falling short. I lent the money on February 25 but he has not returned it till now claiming that the money is with someone else,” she said.

In an attempt to get her money back, Priya staged a sit-in demonstration in front of the District Collectorate and demanded that action be taken against Ananthajyothi.
