Singanallur bund restoration project: Planting of Palm tree saplings ongoing

The Singanallur water body restoration project was initiated by City Mayor and Corporation commissioner on June 18th. The campaign urged on planting native tree saplings around the bund.

Planting native species of trees around the buffer zone will improve water quality by trapping sediment and pollutants, creates habitat for indigenous birds, insects and water creatures and provides shade and assist in soaking up after heavy rainfalls.

As a part of the plan,  planting of Palm tree saplings began at 9:30 am today at the Singanallur water body's buffer zone. Few other native trees like Vetiver trees (Chrysopogon zizaniaides) will also be planted along the buffer zone.
