Stop mineral looting - Puthiya Tamilagam party leader Krishnasamy

A gang from Karur is supporting the looting of minerals. The district administration and the state government are ignoring it. Puthiya Tamilagam party leader Krishnasamy has announced that they will soon unite all the farmer unions and fight.

Coimbatore: Puthiya Tamilagam party president Krishnasamy has said that all the farmers' unions will join hands and launch an agitation soon demanding that the loot of mineral resources be stopped.

Puthiya Tamilagam party leader Krishnasamy was speaking to reporters at his residence in Kuniyamuthur in Coimbatore.

In hilly districts like Tenkasi, Theni and Coimbatore, it is customary for animals from forest areas to enter farmlands. Wild boars are damaging the produce, including sugarcane and groundnut.

The government has not taken any steps to stop the menace of wild boars. It would cost farmers more if they had to erect an acre of wire fencing to protect their farmlands.

Therefore, the state government should take steps to control the menace of wild boars immediately. I don't think it's possible to shoot wild boars with a gun. All the farmer unions have made a demand in this regard.

Before coming to power, the DMK had promised to stop the looting of minerals. But the DMK has not done so even after two years of coming to power. A gang from Karur goes on a rampage to loot mineral resources and conducts a collection hunt in trucks bound for Kerala.

The authorities have failed to curb the looting of minerals. The state government should eradicate the atrocities of the Karur faction. The authorities who impose restrictions on the extraction of soil on their own land do not pay heed to the smuggling of minerals. This has resulted in huge revenue loss to the government.

Also, the activities of those who collect illegally should be stopped. This mineral looting would not have happened without the support of the government. Soon, all the farmer unions will be mobilised to demand an end to the looting of minerals.

No fee should be charged for transporting silt from ponds that come under the control of the Public Works Department to their own land. Thus, Krishnasamy said.
