Coimbatore Naam Tamilar Party alleges police interference during nomination process

In Coimbatore, alternate candidates from the Naam Tamilar Party claimed they encountered hurdles during their nomination filing process, alleging that the police halted them for questioning despite their adherence to regulations.

Coimbatore: While candidates from the Naam Tamilar Party filed their nominations yesterday to contest in the Coimbatore and Pollachi parliamentary constituencies, today, the last day for filing nominations, saw alternate candidates from the party arriving at the district collectorate to submit nominations.

However, they have alleged ofencountering unexpected challenges at the Coimbatore District Collector's Office, attributing these difficulties to police intervention.

While regulations permit five individuals to accompany a candidate, the police restricted this number to three, igniting a dispute, party members alleged.

They argued that this restriction was unwarranted, especially since they possessed all necessary documents for the nomination process.

The situation escalated when Naam Tamilar Party members claimed that a DMK candidate received preferential treatment, earlier in the day. They alleged that despite being in line to file their papers, the police halted them, indirectly allowing the DMK candidate to proceed without delay.

This alleged favoritism sparked a heated exchange between the party members and the law enforcement officials, causing a brief commotion outside the Collector's office.
