Review Meeting Held in Coimbatore on Vehicle Checks and Gift Surveillance

A meeting led by special expenditure observer P.R. Balakrishnan EX IRS (IT) was conducted on April 14 at the Coimbatore District Collector's office to review the monitoring and surveillance of vehicle checks, money distribution, and gifts.


Coimbatore: A crucial review meeting was held at the Coimbatore District Collector's office conference hall regarding the supervision of vehicle checks, gifting practices, and financial distributions, especially in the context of the upcoming elections. The meeting, chaired by Tamil Nadu’s special expenditure observer P.R. Balakrishnan EX IRS (IT), saw significant discussion on the current methodologies and practices employed to ensure transparency and legality during the election period.



Distinguished officials including the Coimbatore parliamentary constituency expenditure observer Geethu Padolia and Pollachi parliamentary constituency expenditure observer Shiv Pratap Singh participated. District Election Officer/Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan, District Superintendent of Police Badrinath Narayanan, Pollachi Returning Officer/District Revenue Officer Sharmila, and several departmental officials attended the meeting.

The focus of the discussions, as highlighted by P.R. Balakrishnan, was the continual need to monitor vehicles for illegal cash and gift distributions to voters which include cash, liquor, and tokens among others. The presence of flying squads and static surveillance teams at various checkpoints underscores the seriousness with which vehicle checks are being prioritized.



Moreover, Balakrishnan emphasized the necessity for banks and enforcement officials to rigorously monitor any suspicious or high-volume transactions which deviate from normal patterns. High alertness levels are also mandated for withdrawals or deposits of amounts exceeding ₹50,000 without causing any inconvenience to the general public.

The meeting further scrutinized whether ambulances and governmental vehicles were being misused for transporting cash illegally. Security teams, including flying squads and static surveillance squads, seized various items like cash, liquor, drugs, gold, and merchandise, all documented and later returned with proper verification.
