Coimbatore: Master Mathan, the former BJP MP from Nilgiris Lok Sabha constituency, passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 93. He breathed his last at 11:10 PM at his residence in Balaji Garden, Press Colony near Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore district.
Master Mathan served as a BJP MP for the Nilgiris constituency during Vajpayee's tenure as Prime Minister. He was elected to the Lok Sabha twice, first in 1998 and then from 1999 to 2004. He also held the position of Deputy Leader of the BJP in Tamil Nadu.
The veteran politician had been undergoing continuous treatment for health issues at his home in recent times. He is survived by his wife Saraswathi Ammal, two sons, and a daughter.
Upon learning of his demise, BJP officials and party workers from the Coimbatore district gathered at his residence on Thursday morning to pay their last respects. They offered tributes to the departed leader, whose body was kept at his home for public homage.
