Today, members of Indian Medical Council protested against the Central Government's proposed plan to dissolve the Indian Medical Council and replace it with a new body National Medical Commission. Indian Medical Council is hosting a nationwide protest against the proposed establishment of National Medical Commission.
In Coimbatore, the protest was called for in front of the council's office on Brooke Bond Road. Doctors and medical students participated in the protest.
The protesters said that the Central Government is trying to dissolve the democratically elected Indian Medical Council and promote a new body in its place. The protesters also alleged that the Central Government has planned to appoint 15 members of the total 20 members by appointment. The protestors insisted that the Central Government should call off its plan of dissolving the Indian Medical Council.
At the same protest the increase in incidents of attacks on doctors was condemned.
