Demanding an immediate rollback of the hike in petrol, diesel and commercial LPG cylinder prices, the CPI(M), CPI and CPI (Marxist-Leninist) jointly organised a protest demonstration near Tatabad Power House in Coimbatore on Wednesday.
Coimbatore: Left parties staged a demonstration in Coimbatore on Wednesday condemning the continuous increase in petrol, diesel and commercial LPG cylinder prices and urging the Union Government to withdraw the revised rates immediately.
The protestors alleged that the steady rise in fuel and gas prices has significantly contributed to inflation and the escalating cost of essential commodities, thereby increasing the financial burden on the public.
The demonstration was jointly organised by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) near Tatabad Power House in Coimbatore.
CPI(M) district executive committee member K.S. Kanagaraj presided over the protest. CPI(M) district executive member K. Ajayakumar, CPI district deputy secretary C. Thangavel and CPI(ML) district secretary Balasubramaniam addressed the gathering and criticised the Union Government over rising fuel prices and economic policies.
Senior leaders including CPI(M) district secretary C. Padmanabhan, former MLA U.K. Vellingiri, CPI district secretary C. Sivasamy and CPI state treasurer M. Arumugam participated in the agitation along with party functionaries and cadres.
During the protest, protestorsraised slogans against the centre, demanding effective measures to curb price rise and safeguard the interests of the common public.
