Coimbatore: A series of road accidents reported in different parts of Coimbatore over the past few days has left a 64-year-old man dead and four others injured. In two of the incidents, the vehicles involved allegedly fled the scene without stopping, prompting police to examine CCTV footage and trace the drivers.

Elderly Man Dies After Government Bus Hits Scooter

Muthukumar (64), a resident of VKL Nagar in Thudiyalur, was travelling on his scooter along Mettupalayam Main Road when the accident occurred near Martin Homoeopathy College in the GN Mills area. A government express bus travelling in the same direction allegedly rammed his scooter, throwing him onto the road.

He sustained severe injuries to his head and left leg. Passers-by rescued him and sent him to a hospital in an auto-rickshaw, but doctors reportedly declared that he had died on the way. Based on a complaint from his daughter, Muthulakshmi (40), the West Traffic Investigation Wing registered a case against bus driver Chinnaraj (38) and is conducting further investigation.

Bike Hits Elderly Pedestrian at Kavanuai Junction

On August 31, Ayyasamy (64) was attempting to cross the road near the Vadamadurai–Kavanuai junction when an unidentified two-wheeler allegedly hit him near a Titan showroom. He suffered a severe fracture to his hip and other injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The rider reportedly fled the spot without stopping to assist him. The West Traffic Investigation Wing has registered a case based on Ayyasamy’s complaint and is attempting to identify the rider using CCTV footage and other evidence.

Woman, Daughter Injured After Car Hits Scooter

On August 29, Gayathri (42), a resident of Vadavalli, was travelling along Marudamalai Road with her eight-year-old daughter on the scooter when an unidentified car allegedly collided with them near the Bharat Petroleum outlet at Navaavoor Pirivu.

Both mother and daughter were thrown onto the road and sustained injuries. Gayathri suffered an internal chest injury, while the child sustained a serious head injury. They were taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver allegedly fled without stopping, and the West Traffic Investigation Wing is examining CCTV footage to trace the vehicle.

Bike, Goods Vehicle Collide Head-On in Ramanathapuram

In another accident, Madankumar (21), originally from Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district and currently working in Coimbatore, was riding his bike along the 80 Feet Road at Ramanathapuram when it collided head-on with a Tata Ace goods vehicle near Sri Revathi Hardwares.

Madankumar suffered severe injuries to his right knee and foot and was initially taken to Coimbatore Government Hospital. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Ramanathapuram for further treatment. The East Traffic Investigation Wing has registered a case and is questioning the goods vehicle driver, Sivashakthi (21), regarding the accident.

Police are continuing their investigations into the four incidents, including the circumstances surrounding the crashes and the alleged failure of two drivers to remain at the accident scenes.
