A total of 132 persons involved in various criminal activities were preventively detained under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1982, between January 1 and September 9, 2026, including 54 classified as Goondas.
Coimbatore: As per the orders of Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Kannan, a total of 132 persons involved in various criminal activities were preventively detained under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1982, between January 1 and September 9, 2026, the City Police said.
Of those detained, 54 were classified as Goondas, while 44 were drug offenders. The remaining persons included four cybercrime offenders, seven sexual offenders, eight black marketeers and others covered under the provisions of the preventive detention law.
The cases were registered and the individuals were arrested during the period, following which preventive detention action was taken against them under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1982, upon the orders of the City Police Commissioner.
The action was taken as part of measures to prevent activities affecting public order and maintain peace in Coimbatore, the police said.
Of those detained, 54 were classified as Goondas, while 44 were drug offenders. The remaining persons included four cybercrime offenders, seven sexual offenders, eight black marketeers and others covered under the provisions of the preventive detention law.
