Pasiyara Soru - Raja Sethu Murali

Raja Sethu Murali is the 45 year old bachelor son of Valliyammal and Krishnaswamy from Kuniyamuthur. He was born with two brothers and two sisters into a really impoverished household. The conditions at his home front forced him to discontinue his studies at the Kuniyamuthur Government School. Poverty and related difficulties impelled Raja Sethu Murali to become a social worker. Its interesting to note that he is a comedy artist who has donned a number of roles in movies like Naan Kadavul, Ivan Veramadiri etc., and also in the teleserial Bharathi Kannamma being telecast by Vendar TV.

Acting feeds Raja Sethu Murali, however his food for the soul and purpose of life happens to be the feeding of the impoverished on a day to day basis. He has been an active social worker for over 20 years and has financially helped over 150 school kids doing their tenth standard year after year. These kids are identified by the Head Masters of Government Schools. The social worker is proud to share the details pertaining to the performance of the students aided through his initiative.

In addition to his initiative in aid of the poor kids, Raja Sethu Murali has began feeding the sick, poor and homeless who included HIV afflicted people too. He distributed food at the 'homes' who hosted these unfortunate souls. One day he observed the plight of the poor patients and their attendants struggling for food at the Government Hospital in Trichy Road and came up with the new initiative "Pasiyara Soru". Raja Sethu Murali spun into activity immediately and put in his efforts to get an autorickshaw along with vessels in order to transport and distribute food for the patients and their attendants. States the good samaritan, "I started off my buying food from a restaurant who used to provide food for 150 people at a concessional rate of Rs.3000 and this possible due to the assistance rendered by RB Engineering Balu, Darshan Controls Senthil, Voltas Thiagarajan, Saravana Steels, Rotary Club of Coimbatore City whose President and Secretary happen to be Rajkumar Velu and S.M.Karthikesh. An unknown benefactor from the Lions Club has also been helping this initiative for sometime. Now thanks to help received from Mahaveer Jain and Barathan Srinivasan it was possible to set up a kitchen and cook food at a lower cost from my house. We serve rasam, poriyal and rice to the patients who include young mothers. Everyday people wait for the blue auto which transports their lunch free of cost. I am fortunate and thank God for his guidance and help." This deeply religious social worker believes that God has created him in order to help the needy.

Raja Sethu Murali has engaged Mahesh and Chithra who help him to cook the food for the poor and clean the vessels everyday. In addition to all this he helps about 150 poor families celebrate Diwali by getting them provisions and clothes and the cost of this project comes up to Rs. 630000 annually. Its heartening to note that the clothes are got from good outlets who sell quality stuff. Raja Sethu Murali adds further, "In future none should suffer from lack of attention due to poverty. I understand the situation for I come from a similar background. My parents were day wage labourers. We are trying to do more by distributing food surpluses from wedding halls to the poor living in nearby villages. Food surplus is being distributed in Alandurai, Kinathukadavu, Thondamuthur, Thamaraikulam, Kulathupalayam, Sundakamuthur, Thudiyalur, Semmedu, Muttathuvayal in the neighbourhood of Coimbatore."

"Vallalar and Mother Theresa are my role models", says a content Raja Sethu Murali. Coimbatore, the city noted for noble deeds really fortunate to have Raja Sethu Murali as a citizen.
