Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Kannan chaired a consultation meeting with representatives of Hindu organisations and political parties ahead of Vinayagar Chaturthi, issuing safety and law and order guidelines for the festival, processions and idol immersion.
Coimbatore: Ahead of the Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Kannan chaired a consultation meeting with representatives of various Hindu organisations and political parties at the City Police Commissioner’s Office on September 9.
The discussions focused on the installation of Vinayagar idols, conduct of religious programmes, arrangements for processions and the safe transportation of idols to designated immersion sites. Measures to ensure public safety, regulate traffic and maintain law and order during the festival were also discussed.
Festival organisers were instructed to make adequate safety arrangements at locations where idols are installed and ensure that celebrations do not cause inconvenience to the public. They were also asked to take steps to prevent traffic congestion and conduct processions only along routes permitted by the police.
The Commissioner stressed the need to give due importance to the safety of the public, particularly women and children, during the celebrations and processions. Organisers were asked to strictly follow all guidelines and regulations issued by the government and the police and ensure that the festival was conducted peacefully.
They were also directed to coordinate closely with the police and immediately inform the authorities in the event of any problem or emergency related to the celebrations.
Dr. Kannan appealed to all organisations, political parties and festival organisers to extend their full cooperation to the police to ensure that the Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations were held peacefully, safely and in an atmosphere of social harmony.
